director bill condon (gods & monsters) crafts a fitting tale for thehalloween season. it's a classic story of good vs. evil with a few new twists, and it has a few good laughs to boot.we're treated to the return of jason clarke as the shape-shifting, snarky spook. this time he's an infidel on the run from his own kind and that pesky james mcgillvray, whom they made spook's longtime nemesis back in the film beetlejuice. this time he's out for blood.as for a little more of a supernatural vibe, this film adds both a werewolf and a giant spider.much of the movie is set in a modern new york city, but there's also somobvious nod to "the last unicorn," an attraction at a theme parkcalled ghost house. the director, however, apparently missed the originalfilm's subtle easter egg.

i'm going to go out on a limb and assume most of you have alreadyseen the first movie in this series. i'm not a huge fan of the mythology, but the second one, the good witch, is just a fun movie. the third one, the good witch's garden, is terrific. the hallmark channel has turned the seriesinto a yearly release of a new movie every year. it's kind of a christmas tradition now. the first one starts out as a typical witch and wizard movie where our hero is the new kid in town and has to go to hogwarts for school. the second one takes a more realistic turn with a girl in high school, and it's this third one that takes the cake for me.
